Priestley Cup

Scholes were celebrating after beating Lightcliffe by seven wickets to reach the semi-finals of the Priestley Cup for the first time.

Their reward is another home tie against champions Pudsey St Lawrence next Sunday when they will be hoping to secure a place in this year's final at Spen Victoria.

Overseas player Rizwan Ahmed guided them to victory with an unbeaten 79 as they cruised past Lightcliffe's total of 155-8. Ahmed struck two sixes and seven fours in a match which suffered from interruptions for rain.

Opener Kasir Maroof (32) also played an important part in the successful run chase, but the man who set up their success was opening bowler Yassir Ali.

He took out the top three Lightcliffe batsmen in a crucial spell of 3-37. Joe Duffy (3-20) also picked up important wickets later on when Lightcliffe were chasing quick runs. Rhys Jowett (32no) and Rob Burton (31) were the top scorers in a total of 155-8.
